At Yew Tree, we use Boom Reader to record your child’s reading journey. By downloading the app, you can record the support that your child receives at home. Staff can see what children are reading at home and you can see what reading they are completing with teachers whilst at school.

Boom Reader is free and easy to download and takes minutes to connect to the school and your child’s reading records. All your children’s reading records are in one app and you can swap between the children’s records at the touch of button.

Boom Reader Parent Set Up Guide

If you need the school code or unique pupil code to connect, please dojo your child’s class teacher. Ms Mclean is also available to support.

This essential skills and knowledge project teaches children about physical and human features, maps, cardinal compass points, and positional and directional language. They learn about the equator, hemispheres and continents and are introduced to the countries, capital cities and settlements of the United Kingdom. The children carry out simple fieldwork to find out about local physical and human features.

This project teaches children about the concept of the portrait and how the collage technique can be used to make a portrait.

You can support your child with learning at home by spending time reading together and listening to them read daily. You could always visit the local library to choose some books together!

You can also help your child to learn to read and spell the Year 1 common exception words.

Year 1 Common Exception Words

We would encourage you to follow your children's interests and we would welcome any home projects if they want to learn and find out more about any of our in school topics.
