SEND Information

Our Inclusion Leader (SENDCO) is Ms Amy Walker-Laver. She can be contacted within school via the school office, Class Dojo or by telephone on 01922 626 926

If parents/carers have any concerns about the support their child receives, they should speak to the class teacher in the first instance. If concerns remain following this, they should contact our Inclusion Leader or a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

If parents/carers wish to make a formal complaint, they should follow the procedures outlined in our Complaints Policy.

Yew Tree Primary School is a fully inclusive, mainstream primary school.  Within our building, we utilise spaces to support our children and meet individual needs. This includes SEND space called 'The Hive' which is used to support the education of pupils with complex needs across our EYFS & Key Stage 1 classes.

The Hive accommodates pupils who are currently unable to access a mainstream classroom environment, on a full time basis, because of their needs. Although The Hive is part of our school, it is not a separate class, nor a specialist SEND resource base, and the children who attend all have their place in our mainstream classes. However, learning is organised differently in The Hive in order to support the needs of the children that attend this provision.

To find out more about The Hive, please see the overview document below.

Engagement Model

If your child is in Y1 - Y6 but working below the levels of the National Curriculum, and therefore not engaged in subject specific study, they will be assessed using the Engagement Model. Information about what this means is included below.

If you are unsure whether this applies to your child, or you have any questions about it, please get in touch with your child's class teacher or our Inclusion Leader.

Sandwell Local Offer

Our vision for children and young people in Sandwell with special educational needs and disabilities is that they will be able to achieve their aspiration for a healthy ordinary life through meaningful employment and fulfilling relationships within the community of their choosing.

To help with achieving this vision the Local Authority has produced, as required by law, a 'Local Offer' which sets out the support they expect to be available for children and young people in Sandwell with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Please find Sandwell’s Local Offer online by clicking on the image below.
