Nursery
We are excited to welcome you to the Yew Tree family and we are really looking forward to working with you and your child this year. All children are special and unique! We want them to love school and we want to make our classroom a place of laughter and learning! Our Early Years Setting provides the children with a stimulating, exciting and challenging curriculum in a caring and supportive environment.
In the EYFS we love being creative, a little bit messy and a little bit noisy, but don't worry - it's all to help us with our learning! We do lots of singing, dancing, playing and creating. Children have the chance to work with staff as well as find out things on their own. We have lots of exciting activities planned for the busy year ahead, and cannot wait to share these experiences with the children.
We really value your support and the role you play in your child’s education, so if you have any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to come in and see us.

PE will take place ONCE A WEEK for Nursery children.
This will take place TUESDAY each week.
Children are not required to wear a PE kit in Nursery.

Forest School will take place ONCE A WEEK for Nursery children.
This will take place on FRIDAY each week.

Curriculum Information
All of the work we do in Nursery goes towards developing your child in the 7 key areas of learning; Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.
All of our work in these areas will be documented by photographs, mark making, artwork and other pieces of evidence on our Learning Journals. Your child will work in small groups each day completing guided maths and writing activities, as well as a daily Super Sounds (phonics) session to develop their reading and listening skills. These activities will develop key skills for your child, as well as being fun and interesting to engage them with their learning.
We also follow a 'creative curriculum', which is a thematic approach to delivering aspects of the curriculum. We have a different topic each half-term, and provide lots of stimulating activities for your child to choose and explore based around this topic.

Our topics for Autumn One are “Me and My Community/ Exploring Autumn" and Autumn two are "Once Upon a Time/ Sparkle and Shine”.

Me and My Community
This project supports children with settling into the new rules and routines of school and encourages them to make new friends and feel confident in their class. It teaches children about being helpful, kind and thoughtful at home and at school. This project also teaches children how they are unique and special, the importance of friendship and how people in their family, school and local community are important and can help them.
Exploring Autumn
This project teaches children about the natural changes that happen during the season of autumn, including how the weather changes, why trees lose their leaves and how wild animals prepare for winter.
Once Upon a Time
This project teaches children about stories and fairy tales from the past. They will learn about both real Kings and Queens from the past and Kings and Queens in stories. The children will also learn about significant events in their own lives and in the lives of others. They will also learn nursery rhymes and simple songs that they will love to perform to you at home!
Sparkle and Shine
The fun, excitement and enjoyment of the Christmas season is covered in this project, including the children's performance in the Nativity.
- Use Google Earth to explore where you live and look up places you would like to visit.
- Talk about places around the world you have visited, or places that family members or friends live. Look at the places on a map and talk about ways to travel.
- If you go on holiday, send a postcard to school to show where you went.
- Share and discuss the Did you know? resource.
