At Yew Tree, we know that playtime is far more than just a break in the day; it’s a vital part of children’s learning, wellbeing and social development. Play gives our pupils the chance to get active, build friendships, express themselves and develop key life skills such as teamwork, communication, resilience and problem‑solving.

Ava, Georgie, Aydan, Charlie, Kaylah, Theo, Jessica, Bella, Amelia, Simran, Riley, Heidi-Rae and Joshua!

What do Play Leaders do? 

A group of enthusiastic pupils from years 4, 5 and 6 have completed specialist Play Leader training. During this training, they learnt a variety of exciting playground games as well as how to explain and organise these games clearly and confidently. 

They have already mastered some brilliant games, including Dragon’s Treasure and Team Rock, Paper, Scissors — a huge favourite among our new leaders!

Our Play Leaders help make the playground a fun, active and welcoming place for everyone! 

Their role is to:

- encourage children to join in with games

- teach and organise simple, inclusive games

- help children from different year groups mix and play together

- promote kindness, fairness and positive behaviour

- make sure everyone has someone to play with.

You’ll spot our Play Leaders during breaktimes and lunchtimes ready to help. Whether you want to try a new game, meet new friends or simply join in with something fun, our Play Leaders are there to support you.

If you see a Play Leader on the playground, don't be afraid to ask them:

“Can you show me a game?”

They'll be more than happy to get you involved!

We are really proud of the children who have taken on this role. They are helping to create a playground where everyone can be active, have fun, make friends and enjoy their playtime.

So, keep your eyes peeled at break and lunchtime – you never know what exciting game might be happening next!
