Our UNICEF Ambassadors are one of our newest pupil leadership roles. They are elected by their classmates from Years 1–6 and are an integral part of our pupil leadership team. As student representatives, they champion children’s rights through UNICEF UK’s Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) and help to ensure that children’s rights are understood, valued and promoted throughout our school.

Our UNICEF Ambassadors work closely with Ms. Horsley, our RRSA Lead, and other adults across school as part of our RRSA Steering Group. They meet regularly to plan activities, promote children’s rights and monitor our progress towards our next award.

We work together to develop and maintain a school community based on equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. This means learning and teaching in ways that respect the rights of both educators and learners, while promoting the wellbeing of everyone in our school community.

We are proud to be a Rights Respecting School with a Bronze Award, and we are working hard towards achieving our Silver Award. The rights of the child are at the heart of our school and are embedded in our ethos and everyday life. We believe that every child should be able to access all of their rights, and we work together as a school community to help make this happen.

Our UNICEF Ambassadors play an important role in making this happen. They act as a bridge between the leadership team and the classroom, helping to ensure that children’s voices and ideas are represented. Their responsibilities include:

• Attending RRSA Steering Group meetings.

• Promoting children’s rights in their classes and throughout school.

• Organising UNICEF special days and focus weeks.

• Supporting fundraising activities.

• Raising the profile of UNICEF and children’s rights across school.

• Making links to children’s rights within lessons and learning.

Through their enthusiasm, ideas and leadership, our UNICEF Ambassadors help us to continue developing a school where every child is respected, valued and able to enjoy their rights.

Our UNICEF Ambassadors meet regularly throughout the school year with Miss Horsley. These meetings provide an opportunity for our ambassadors to share ideas, discuss children's rights, plan upcoming activities and events, and reflect on how we can continue to develop our Rights Respecting School.
