Hello Reception Family,
Welcome back to a new term! We hope you have all had a lovely Easter and enjoyed a well deserved rest.
We understand that while staying at home due to coronavirus (COVID-19), parents and carers will be concerned about their children’s education and the impact of missing school. It is not the way we wanted to be start a new term but we are still here to help.
On our webpage below, you will find advice for looking after primary school children and how to help them continue their education. There are project planners and big idea challenges uploaded weekly with a range of tasks for you to complete with your child, as well as resources and external links for the different areas of education. These will be continually updated.
Feel free to send any work you do with the children via Class Dojo or to @YewTreeSandwell on Twitter!
If you need any assistance or have any queries regarding virtual learning, please contact us via Class Dojo.
Best Regards,
Reception Team

🎗MENTAL HEALTH WEEK🎗
18th - 24th May 2020
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, which aims to get people talking about their mental health and reduce the stigma that can stop people from asking for help.
This year the theme is Kindness, which we feel is really important at the moment.
Kindness has been chosen because of its singular ability to unlockour shared humanity. Kindness strengthens relationships, develops community and deepens solidarity. It is a cornerstone of our individual and collective mental health. Wisdom from every culture across history recognises that kindness is something that all human beings need to experience and practise to be fully alive.
Below are some ideas of how you can get involved. We can’t wait to see what you get up to. Remember to send pictures to Dojo and twitter @YewTreeSandwell.
🌙🕌Eid al-Fitr🕌🌙
During Ramadan lots of Muslims fast, which means they do not eat and drink anything during the day. Eid al-Fitr is to celebrate the fast ending. Many muslims celebrate this day by putting on special clothes and sharing meals with family and friends. Many people use the greeting 'Eid Mubarak' during the festival to wish people a blessed Eid. Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating - Yew Tree wishes you a lovely day🙏.
Below are some activities that you can do to celebrate this special day. We can't wait to see what you get up to! Remember to send pictures/videos to Dojo and Twitter @YewTreeSandwell.
🤙🤏👆Makaton Challenge👆🤏🤙
Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression.
Can you use these resources below to learn the alphabet or greet somebody using Makaton?
On Friday 8th May 2020, it is the 75th anniversary of VE Day. VE Day stands for 'Victory in Europe Day' and marks the day Winston Churchill announced Germany's surrender from the day before.
Maybe you could dress in red, white and blue to make a flag and wave it! If you like singing you could learn the lyrics to 'We'll meet again'. Maybe you could have a party in the house and make lots of different food; and of course you might need a hat so you could make one of those too!
Please send your VE Day pictures to Tapestry, Dojo and twitter @YewTreeSandwell. We look forward to seeing all your fab pictures📸.

All About me!
The children have been learning all about themselves. They started school with a treasure box that they made and filled at home during the summer holidays. In class the children have shared their all about me boxes with each other and with the adults - we have learnt so much about each other! We have also been creating portraits, washing babies, playing in role, and working together as we have made new friends and settled into their school routines.
