How can you help your child?

During science week we had a visit from Profressor Pete. The children were thoroughly excited to take part in the workshops throughout the day. We discovered how air moves objects and how powerful it can be.
Celebration of Learning Assembly
Next Tuesday morning we will be holding a celebration of learning assembly. Please see the attached letter.
With half of our Year 2 gone, we are preparing to launch our new topic for Spring 2. The children have loved their learning this last half term and are really excited about moving onto the Gruffalo. See below for what skills we will be learning after half term.
The children designed and made new broomsticks for the witch and her animal friends. They had to consider which animals they wanted to make special seats for and then create those using arts and craft materials.
The children went on a 'stick hunt' and collected a stick of their choice from our wood.
We are really getting into our new PE topic. Our warm ups are definitely keeping us warm (as you can see!)
We hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas holiday and are looking forward to all of the exciting learning we have planned for this term.
As you are now aware, we have had a visit from a witch over Christmas. Luckily she avoided the dragon so we can help her get on her way again.
Attached below is all of the exciting learning we will be doing this term.
What a fantastic few days we had at Edgmond Hall. The children worked non-stop to train as Elves to help Santa on his very important day. From sorting presents to making sure they could get them down the chimney, we even had to practise picking up the reindeer poo. It was an intense few days, but we're glad to say all of the children passed their Elf training with flying colours and were rewarded with a special gift from Santa himself.
Rail Safety Assembly
This morning we have had a visitor from Network Rail come in and talk to us about being safe around the railway. The children found this really interesting and learned lots about staying safe.
We had a surprise visit in one of our Year 2 classrooms this week. We came in to find the remains of a snowman on the classroom floor. Puzzled, the children used their detective skills to find out about him and why he had come to visit. He brought us his story, which we are thoroughly enjoying.
Over the past few weeks Year 2 have been visiting our school library to choose books for our class reading areas. They have also had the chance to take out a book to take home and supplement their school reading book. We have all throughly enjoyed this and loved making use of our library. The children have had great fun discussing the different options and 2B even spent some time arguing which was their favourite Roald Dahl book (we were focussing on Roald Dahl as our class book last half term).
Homework is once again, amazing! Children have really enjoyed sharing their homemade settings with the others and inspiring them to create their own stories.
We designed and made a healthy meal to help Granny from Little Red Riding Hood get better. We looked at what makes a healthy meal and the different components such as carbohydrates and fruit and vegetables. We then took our picnic outside to enjoy eating it in the sun.
In PE we have been looking at activity games. We have been working on defensive and attacking skills. We have played 'Pirates' and have started to look at 'Tag rugby'.
