Forest School

Forest School at Yew Tree offers unique outdoor learning experiences. It has many benefits, from encouraging curiosity and nurturing a love of science to developing empathy for the environment and heightening classroom outcomes. Forest School not only provides opportunities for children to take their learning outdoors, but also develops many skills that are sometimes hard to teach in the classroom.

  • It supports hands on active learning
  • It embeds academic learning across the curriculum
  • It helps to develop resilience, confident and independent children
  • It offers risk and challenge
  • It promotes active, healthy lifestyles
  • It encourages children to look after themselves, each other and their world
  • It improves communication and social skills
  • It supports mental and spiritual health

Forest School will take place once a week for Nursery children.

Morning Children: Every Thursday

Afternoon Children: Every Thursday

Children are required to wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear.

Tapestry is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time with us. This system allows us to work with parents and carers to share information and record the children’s play and learning in and outside of the classroom.

On the Beach

In the On the Beach project, the children will share their experiences of visiting a beach and learn about animals that live in rock pools and on the seashore. They will explore days out at the beach and compare their experiences with beach holidays. They will learn about the animals that live in the sea and find out about worldwide seas and oceans. They will explore the importance of looking after the environment to keep living things safe. They will learn about staying safe at the beach and find out about people who help us.

Move It

In the Move It project, the children will participate in physical activities and learn about the importance of exercise, getting a good night’s sleep and eating a healthy balanced diet.
