Nursery

We are excited to welcome you to the Yew Tree family and we are really looking forward to working with you and your child this year. All children are special and unique! We want them to love school and we want to make our classroom a place of laughter and learning! Our Early Years Setting provides the children with a stimulating, exciting and challenging curriculum in a caring and supportive environment.

In the EYFS we love being creative, a little bit messy and a little bit noisy, but don't worry - it's all to help us with our learning! We do lots of singing, dancing, playing and creating. Children have the chance to work with staff as well as find out things on their own. We have lots of exciting activities planned for the busy year ahead, and cannot wait to share these experiences with the children.

We really value your support and the role you play in your child’s education, so if you have any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to come in and see us.

Exploring Autumn

In the Exploring Autumn project, the children will go on a woodland walk to learn about the seasonal changes that happen in autumn. They will learn about birds and animals that live in the woods and how they survive as the weather gets colder. They will take part in practical and creative activities that will support them to learn about autumn.

Curriculum Information

All of the work we do in Nursery goes towards developing your child in the 7 key areas of learning; Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.

All of our work in these areas will be documented by photographs, mark making, artwork and other pieces of evidence on Tapestry in Online Learning Journals. You can find more information about Tapestry below. Your child will work in small groups each day completing guided maths and writing activities, as well as a daily Super Sounds (phonics) session to develop their reading and listening skills. These activities will develop key skills for your child, as well as being fun and interesting to engage them with their learning.

We also follow a 'creative curriculum', which is a thematic approach to delivering aspects of the curriculum. We have a different topic each half-term, and provide lots of stimulating activities for your child to choose and explore based around this topic.

Autumn Two Topics

Our topics for Autumn Two are “Once Upon a Time" and "Sparkle and Shine”.

During forest school, children will look at the topic "Exploring Autumn".

Head over to our school twitter page where you will find exciting pictures and videos of our learning. Click here to access our school twitter page.

Once Upon a Time

In the Once Upon a Time project, the children will be introduced to the wonderful world of stories. This project supports children to develop a love of stories and reading. It encourages children to learn, retell and act out familiar and traditional tales. They will also make up their own stories and make masks, props and puppets to act out their stories.

Sparkle and Shine

In the Sparkle and Shine project, the children will explore different celebrations that take place in autumn and winter, focusing on the significance and symbolism of light at this time of year. They will take part in a variety of creative activities and discover more about how Christmas, Diwali and Hanukkah are celebrated around the world.

Please see ClassDojo for more details.

Tapestry is a secure Online Learning Journal to record photos, videos observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time with us. This system allows us to work with parents and carers to share information and record the children’s play and learning in and outside of the classroom.
