Mr. Ixer, Miss. Elkin and Miss. Bevan are looking forward to teaching you all. Other members of staff involved with the teaching of children this year includes: Mrs. Baleem, Miss. Evans, Mrs. Hollis, Mrs. Mason and Mrs. Lowe. We have a lot of exciting lessons and activities planned this year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate in speaking to us about your child's learning.

20th April 2020.

Hello Year 4 Family,

Welcome back to a new term! We hope you have all had a lovely Easter and enjoyed a well-deserved rest.

We understand that while staying at home due to coronavirus (COVID-19), parents and carers will be concerned about their children's education and the impact of missing school. It is not the way we wanted to be starting a new term but we are still here to help.

On our webpage below, you will find advice for looking after primary school children and how to help them continue their education. There are project planners and big ideas challenges uploaded weekly with a range of tasks for you to complete with your child, as well as resources and external links for the different areas of education. These will be continually updated.

Feel free to send any work you do with the children via Class Dojo or to @YewTreeSandwell on Twitter!

If you need any assistance or have any queries regarding virtual learning, please contact us via Class Dojo.

Best Regards,

Year 4 Team

Makaton challenge.

Did you see the fabulous Mrs Snow in the Yew Tree video? She used Makaton to send the Yew Tree family her message. Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression.

Can you use these resources below to learn the alphabet or greet somebody using Makaton?

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK

18th-24th MAY 2020

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week which aims to get people talking about their mental health and reduce the stigma that can stop people from asking for help.

This year the theme is Kindness, which we feel is really importantat the moment.

Kindness has been chosen because of its singular ability to unlockour shared humanity. Kindness strengthens relationships, develops community and deepens solidarity. It is a cornerstone of our individual and collective mental health. Wisdom from every culture across history recognises that kindness is something that all human beings need to experience and practise to be fully alive.

What will you do to be kind this week?

Here are some ideas, it would be great if you can share what you have being doing on Twitter @YewTreeSandwell.

VE Day Friday 8th May

This Friday will mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day - the day that the Second World War ended in Europe. The usual May bank holiday was moved to Friday 8th for the occasion and all sorts of events had been planned across the country and across Europe. Now, of course, these have been cancelled because of covid-19. But that doesn't mean that we can't mark this very special anniversary, remember the brave people who gave everything to end the war, and celebrate the peace that we enjoy now.

Why not have a go at some of the activities below and share what you have done on Twitter @YewTreeSandwell.
