COMIC RELIEF:
As we have previously agreed, through consultation, we celebrate a maximum of ONE charity event each term. This term, we shall be supporting Comic Relief.
Red Nose Day takes place on FRIDAY 17th MARCH. On this day, children can come dressed either in red items/something funny.
However, you DO NOT need to send in any money. This day is completely optional and if you would like to contribute to this fantastic cause, you can make donations online at:
https://donation.comicrelief.com/cart/1YsYOwm2pHZgBUhWr8ZL13
ADVANCE WARNING:
Our catering team are planning an exciting menu for World Book Day on THURSDAY 2nd MARCH.
Remember, even if your child usually has a packed lunch, they can book a school meal on any day. School meals should be ordered/paid for via School Grid:
https://app.schoolgrid.co.uk/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2F
IMPORTANT INFORMATION -
We are very grateful that Sandwell Council has made arrangements to provide supermarket vouchers again for the February half term holiday (as per details shared on Class Dojo).
Remember, these are only available for those who are eligible and registered for Free School Meals (FSM) with the Council. This is different to the universal free meal scheme which gives all children a free lunch, from YR - Y2, regardless of income.
If you are allocated a voucher, you should download it immediately (you can keep it save for half term). The DEADLINE to download your voucher is 9.00am on WEDNESDAY 8th FEBRUARY so we have time to resolve any issues prior to half term.
Information about FSM is available at:
https://www.sandwell.gov.uk/info/200151/education_benefits/2176/free_school_meals
As we have said before, it is worth signing up if eligible even if your child doesn't have a school meal every day. This is because it attracts additional funding for school so we can subsidise school clubs/residentials etc and you get access to vouchers when the council provides them.
Our next Rags to Riches collection day is on TUESDAY 31st JANUARY. Between now and then, have a good sort out at home (get relatives and neighbours to do the same).
What better way to spring clean than donating items which will raise money for our School Council to spend?
Any donations should be sent, in sealed plastic bags from 30.01.23 until 9.00am on the day of collection.
On TUESDAY 19th JANUARY @Dolce_Catering have prepared a special lunch for our children to help celebrate #ChineseNewYear.
You can order your child's meal, even if they don't normally stay for lunch, via @SchoolGrid:
https://app.schoolgrid.co.uk/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2F
Don't forget that the DEADLINE to order your child's Christmas lunch this year is FRIDAY 2nd DECEMBER. As usual, orders should be made via School Grid:
The Christmas lunch is due to take place on TUESDAY 13th DECEMBER but, unless you have ordered within the deadline, we may not be able to provide your child with a meal on that day.
Our catering company are planning a theme lunch day to coincide with Bonfire Night. The special menu will apply on THURSDAY 3rd NOVEMBER so don't forget to book on School Grid if you would like your child to have this meal (even if they don't usually):

As tomorrow marks the start of #BlackHistoryMonth, we wanted to share this fantastic resource with you:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/1Ls6kSFUbgVjQyZi93-R934nRnmoZfLNq/edit?filetype=mspresentation
This document (also shared on Dojo) gives you the opportunity to learn about black history by finding out about the lives of individuals (one for each day of October) or exploring texts, poems or other cultural ideas.
Our catering company, Dolce, are planning an exciting theme lunch on THURSDAY 6th OCTOBER.
If you would like to book your child a meal, visit School Grid and make your booking ASAP.
Please remember to send in any tins, packets and household products that you can spare on FRIDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER for our annual Harvest collection.
Any donations received this year will be used in our very own food bank which means we can directly support families at Yew Tree when they need it.
